Digital video artists wanting an art deco atmosphere for their
showings should rush down to the New Theatre in Sydney before Tuesday.
Forty theatre seats are being thrown out. These were originally from
the historic 1920s Capitol Theatre in Melbourne
<http://www.capitol.rmit.edu.au/history/>. It is not known if the
seats were designed by the building's architect, Walter Burley Griffin.
The seats were removed from the Capitol Theatre when it was renovated
42 years ago and ended up in the New Theatre Melbourne (set up by the
Trade Union movement for Brectian style workers plays). They were
them moved to the New Theatre Sydney (who still do the occasional
socialist performance).
The seats are in banks of eight and have a strong wooden frame (which
can be cut to fit a smaller room). The upholstery needs repair. These
chairs could be used in an art deco style mini theatre

The seats are available for the asking. But a small donation to the
non-profit theatre would be appreciated ("From each according to his ability").
