PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING - THE LAST DECADE AND THE FUTURE: LESSONS
FROM THE BBC AND THE UK

Wednesday 2 August 2006, 5.30-7.00pm in the
Law School, University of Melbourne, 185 Pelham Street, Carlton
Hosted by the Centre for Media and Communications Law and the Faculty

Presented by Georgina Born, Cambridge University who is visiting
Australia with support from the ARC Cultural Research Network. In
this lecture Georgina Born will outline the history of the BBC and
discuss how it will fare in the future, given unending crusades by
its commercial and political antagonists against its existence, and
the rising stakes for Britain's pluralist democracy in an era of
continuing media expansion.

From September 2006 Georgina Born will be Professor of Sociology,
Anthropology and Music in the Faculty of Social and Political
Sciences, Cambridge University. She is a leading authority on media
