Hi

I'm forwarding an off-list exchange I had yesterday (hope its OK with
my interlocutor?) as it might help tom shed some light on the issue...
to sum up facebook appears to be a way of advertising who you are and
where your interests lie as well as developing a portfolio of
more-or-less privileged contacts...
(start at the bottom)
cheers

yes, it has SNS features but the primary focus isn't the profile, its
the journal. on facebook the focus is the profile, hence making it a
social networking service

but yes, the term is overused and is fast becoming a meaningless
buzzword because of misuse. like everything else on the internets! it
causes problems for people like me trying to write about and research
them
