Another issue worth talking about here is Senator Conroy's proposal
to make it mandatory for ISPs to provide "clean feeds" free of
pornography and other inappropriate material to houses and schools.
On Facebook I have come across three separate groups reacting to this:
No Australian Internet Censorship, with 2,128 members
People against mandatory internet filters in Australia, with 526 members
and Australian ISP filtering plan is stupid!, with 379 members
I'm not sure how much influence these Facebook groups will have. I'm
a bit new to FB to gauge that. However, an articulate response by
Australian (and other) academics developed in much the same way that
Christian suggested re copyright law would be worth doing if we can.
Re the list: surely the fact that it has livened up so quickly
vindicates Melissa's position. I agree there is lots to talk about,
and this list is a good place to do it.
